Sort and check supplies
Remove items from the cupboard and group cloths, brushes, mops, vacuum attachments and products. Check labels, condition and manufacturer storage instructions; dispose of unwanted chemicals according to the product label and local council guidance rather than pouring them down a drain.
Store chemicals safely
Keep products in their original containers with labels intact, lids closed and contents separate. Never mix chemicals or transfer them to unlabelled drink bottles. Store hazardous products securely away from children, pets, food, direct heat and incompatible substances.
Use stable, accessible storage
Place heavier items on lower shelves, secure shelving and keep frequently used tools within safe reach. Avoid overloading doors or shelves and do not store products where they can fall or leak onto other items. Use bins only when they do not hide labels or create unsafe handling.
Maintain a simple inventory
Keep an accurate list of supplies, note products that need replacement and avoid accumulating duplicates. Follow labels for use, protective equipment and ventilation. Do not keep expired or damaged products unless the manufacturer advises they remain suitable.
