As one of Australia’s numerous tenants, We’ve seen some drab flats. Strange stains, no light, noisy neighbours, a spooky kitchen. Can we live in this flat?.

It’s frequently the dishwasher. That contemporary convenience can place us in a gloomy shoebox next to a dump where the neighbours play country music all night, thanks.

Dishwashers are handy, save us time, and do better than hand cleaning. But the greenhouse gas emissions and environmental protection agencies consider them as not so eco friendly.

Sadly, there isn’t much research on this topic. To measure how individuals wash up after a meal isn’t significant to scientists. Do people prefer washing dishes by hand? But we have enough data to make a judgement.

A 2022 research from Australian Universities indicated that dishwashers save at least 75% water over hand cleaning. BU wash by hand will also save energy and water if it is less.

So let’s look at American research. It praised dishwashers for saving water, stating that a large load would take 170.5 litres to hand wash against less than 20 litres in a dishwasher which is water saving.

Neither do we. It’s the cost of creating our own great meals. Like a tollbooth on the route to flavour town. But as long as we want to eat and don’t want to use the furniture as a plate, we’ll have to keep doing it.
