What determines suitability
Assess wool, synthetic, plant or blended fibres, pile, dye stability, backing, adhesive, underlay and existing damage. Check the manufacturer's care instructions and any warranty requirements. A label that permits cleaning does not automatically approve every temperature, chemical, agitation level or amount of moisture.
Risks of the wrong process
Excess heat or water can cause shrinkage, dye bleed, delamination, odour, prolonged drying or damage beneath the carpet. Strong chemicals and aggressive agitation can affect pile and colour. Spot-test a compatible product and stop if texture, colour or backing changes.

Prepare for controlled drying
Vacuum suitably, disclose stains and previous treatments, protect furniture and arrange access. Use a method with appropriate solution recovery and keep people and pets off damp carpet as instructed. Do not judge the final appearance until the carpet is dry and residue has been addressed.
Escalate uncertain or damaged carpet
Delicate fibres, valuable rugs, water damage, mould-like growth, pet contamination, unstable dye and damaged backing need a qualified carpet or remediation assessment. Dirt2Tidy can quote a suitable carpet-cleaning scope, but cannot guarantee a result for every material or stain.
