Build a short incident record
Record the room, carpet area, known spill, approximate time and steps already taken. Keep the container or product label if a cleaner or chemical was used. Distinguish what you observed from what you assume caused the mark.
Check the material before discussing treatment
Provide the carpet product information, care label or manufacturer document when available. Different fibres, dyes and backings can react differently; if the product is unidentified, tell the provider rather than treating an online description as proof.
Ask the provider clear questions
Ask whether the provider accepts this material and stain, whether an assessment is available, what the quoted task includes, how previous treatments affect the scope, and what limitations or additional charges may apply. Request the answer and price basis in writing.
Do not escalate an uncertain treatment
Do not layer products or improvise mixtures, heat or solvent use. Follow exact maker and product-label instructions. Stop and seek qualified advice if a substance is unknown, the carpet changes colour or texture, or there is a strong odour or exposure concern.
Understand the outcome boundary
Cleaning may address an agreed soil-removal task; it cannot be assumed to reverse dye loss, fibre wear, backing damage, contamination or a moisture source. A provider should describe its accepted scope without promising a particular visual result.
