Identify the exact product and system
Record the brand, product line, construction, wear layer, underlay, installation method and location in the home. Request current technical and care documents from the manufacturer and installer. A category or sample alone does not establish how the complete floor performs.
Read the warranty and water-exposure limits
Check which spills or moisture exposure are covered, for how long, and which preparation, installation, edge and maintenance requirements apply. Ask the seller to explain exclusions and what records are required for a warranty claim. Do not infer that a floor is suitable for wet rooms from a marketing phrase.
Ask a qualified installer about the room
Discuss subfloor condition, moisture, transitions, expansion space, plumbing, drainage and local installation requirements with a qualified flooring professional. This article gives no site-specific installation direction or structural assessment.
Use compatible cleaning and repair products
Follow the exact manufacturer care instructions and product labels for the installed finish. Do not use steam, strong chemicals, abrasives or standing water unless permitted. Cleaning does not repair a leak, confirm a dry subfloor or remediate mould.
Compare claims using documents, not promises
Ask which tested product and installation conditions support any water-resistance claim, and whether it applies to the whole floor or only a component. No protection from flooding, leaks, mould, pets, children or future replacement costs is guaranteed here.
