A Simple Dorm-Room Cleaning Routine for Students

Clear old food and ordinary rubbish, seal food appropriately and wash dishes using the residence's shared kitchen rules. Do not leave wet food or dishes where they may attract pests. Report pest activity to residence staff rather than applying unapproved chemicals.

Put dirty clothes in a hamper, return books and belongings to a safe place, and clear walkways. Wipe the desk with a compatible product and sweep or vacuum the floor. Keep liquids away from electronics, outlets, bedding and shared belongings.

Use only products allowed in the residence, follow labels and never mix chemicals. Store products securely and do not use sprays near other residents, food or poorly ventilated spaces unless their label allows it.

Follow residence policies for bathrooms, kitchens, rubbish and cleaning equipment. Respect roommates' belongings and agree on shared duties. Tell residence staff about leaks, electrical faults, pests, mould-like growth or unknown material instead of attempting repairs yourself.
