Remove loose graphite without spreading it
Keep the area dry and lift loose material gently with a suitable vacuum attachment or clean tool. Do not rub, brush aggressively or press the graphite further into the pile. Protect nearby surfaces and empty or clean the vacuum according to its instructions so fine particles are not redistributed.
Check the carpet before spot treatment
Identify the fibre, backing, dye and manufacturer's care guidance. Test a compatible carpet product in an inconspicuous place and use the smallest amount needed. Avoid bleach, solvent, detergent, powders and household mixtures by guesswork, particularly on wool, delicate or unstable-dye carpet.
Control moisture and residue
If the care instructions permit limited moisture, blot rather than scrub and prevent liquid reaching backing or underlay. Remove residue only as directed and allow the area to dry fully. Stop if the mark spreads, colour transfers, a watermark appears or the pile changes.
