Lift loose paste without spreading it
If the paste is still on the surface, use a spoon or blunt edge to lift it gently from the outside toward the centre. Do not grind it into the pile or scrub across the carpet. Stop if the fibres pull, colour transfers or the paste has dried into the pile.
Remove dry particles with a suitable vacuum tool
Once loose material is dry, check the vacuum manual and carpet-care instructions before using an attachment. Use a setting and tool the makers allow for that carpet; avoid a rotating brush on delicate pile unless the manufacturer specifically permits it. Empty the container or bag as directed.
Check before using water or another cleaner
Do not soak the carpet or add vinegar, detergent, bleach or another household mixture to dissolve the paste. Check the carpet care label and any product directions first; incompatible moisture or chemicals can affect dyes, pile or backing. If instructions are unavailable, ask the carpet manufacturer or a qualified carpet-care provider.
Get help if residue remains
If the paste is bonded to the pile, the carpet changes colour or texture, or the material is unknown, stop rather than repeating stronger treatments. Tell a carpet-care professional what was applied and when so the next step can be assessed for that specific carpet.
