Identify the item and its use
Check the product label or manufacturer guidance for cleaning, dishwasher use, heat limits and contact with food. Some silicone items include coatings, adhesives, electronics or non-silicone parts that need different care. Do not boil, heat or soak an item unless the maker permits it.
Wash compatible household items
For washable items where instructions allow, use the recommended water temperature and a mild dishwashing product, then rinse and dry fully. Avoid abrasive tools, solvents and unapproved oils or chemical mixtures that may damage the surface.
Take care with electronics and baby products
Remove an electronic cover before cleaning and keep moisture away from the device; dry the cover fully before refitting. For pacifiers, bottle parts and other infant products, follow the specific manufacturer cleaning and sterilising instructions and replace items that are damaged or worn.
Address staining or residue cautiously
Discolouration, odour, tackiness or mould-like growth can have different causes. Do not apply bleach, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar or another treatment without checking compatibility. Discard items that cannot be cleaned as directed or whose safety is uncertain.
