Use the cage maker’s care instructions for the frame, coating, tray, perches, toys and removable parts. Do not scrape a finish, dismantle the cage or use an unknown product based on advice for another enclosure.
Plan around the bird’s normal care
Ask the bird’s caregiver how to keep the budgie secure and minimise disturbance while any cleaning takes place. Do not attempt to catch or restrain an untamed bird as part of a household cleaning task. Seek avian veterinary advice if handling, stress or health concerns arise.
Verify product use before it comes near the cage
Ask an avian veterinarian about the exact cleaner or disinfectant and its intended use around the bird.
