Isolate and cool the toaster
Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely. Do not clean it while connected to power, near a sink or while the elements are warm.
Empty the crumb tray as instructed
Remove a crumb tray only if the manual says it is removable. Empty crumbs into the rubbish and wash or wipe the tray only as permitted; dry it fully before replacing.
Keep liquid and metal tools out of the slots
Do not immerse the toaster, pour liquid into openings, insert a knife or use an unapproved brush near heating elements. Follow the manual for the exterior and accessible surfaces; avoid abrasives that could damage the finish.
Stop if the appliance is damaged
A persistent burning smell, damaged cord, sparking, jammed food or faulty control is not a cleaning problem. Stop using the toaster and contact the manufacturer or a qualified appliance technician.
