Confirm measurements and units
Ask the installer to measure the room and state units, doorways, alcoves, stairs, closets and transitions. Confirm whether the quote uses room area, material quantity or a different measure and how cutting waste is handled.
Specify the carpet and underlay
Request the exact product, fibre, construction, colour, warranty and maker care instructions, plus underlay and installation materials. A square-metre estimate alone does not describe the product or installed scope.
Include preparation and removal
Ask whether the quote covers moving furniture, lifting and disposing of existing carpet, subfloor inspection or preparation, levelling, trims, delivery, stairs, access and cleaning after installation. Verify who handles repairs or moisture issues discovered during work.
Compare current written quotes
Obtain itemised, dated estimates for the same product and scope from qualified local flooring installers. Check tax, minimum charges, schedule, payment, variations, warranty, exclusions and who is responsible for measurements and approvals.
Keep installation separate from cleaning
A carpet-cleaning quote does not include supplying, measuring, removing or installing flooring. Confirm each trade’s scope and handover conditions separately.
