Identify glass, coatings and access
Check whether panes are tinted, filmed, coated, patterned or part of a specialist assembly. Identify frames, seals and nearby timber or stone that could be affected by drips. Clean only reachable windows from a stable position; do not lean from balconies, climb ladders or reach outside upper-storey openings.
Choose a compatible cleaning method
Use a glass product according to its label or follow the manufacturer's care directions. Apply it to a cloth or tool as directed, avoid abrasive powders and scouring pads, and do not mix vinegar, alcohol, ammonia, bleach or other products. Keep liquids away from electrical equipment and protect adjacent finishes.
Work in suitable conditions
Clean a small section with a lint-free cloth or suitable squeegee and change water or cloths when dirty. Direct sun and hot glass can dry products quickly, so follow label instructions and stop if the surface streaks or coating changes. Cleaning does not repair scratches, etching, failed seals or hard-water damage.
When professional help may suit
High, difficult-access, fragile or damaged windows may need assessment by a provider with suitable site-specific capability. Ask for the access method, pane list, inclusions, exclusions and written quote. A cleaning service cannot guarantee restoration or a streak-free result in every condition.
