Check the carpet and machine instructions first
Read the carpet or rug care information and the exact cleaner’s manual. Confirm whether the machine permits a solution at all, which product types it allows, and whether the carpet maker limits wet cleaning, agitation or residue. Do not assume that a product labelled for carpets suits every fibre or machine.
Match the product to the cleaning task
A product for routine machine cleaning may not be intended for spot treatment, wool, delicate rugs or upholstery. Check the front and back label for its intended surface, application method, dilution, dwell time, rinsing and ventilation directions. If the label and machine manual conflict, stop and ask the manufacturer rather than improvising.
Compare labels, not unsupported ‘best’ lists
Compare products only after confirming they are permitted for your carpet and machine. Check the named use, container size, instructions, warnings and current price. An online ranking without a transparent test, matching material and machine conditions does not show that a shampoo is right for your home.
Avoid mixing products or changing concentration
Use a product only as labelled and never combine cleaning chemicals or add extra concentrate to chase a stronger result. Do not apply an unapproved spotter into a machine tank. If the carpet is valuable, has an unknown fibre or has already been treated, ask the carpet maker or a qualified carpet-care provider first.
