Choose a mat for the location
Match size, backing, pile and material to traffic, moisture, placement and cleaning access. Follow supplier guidance on indoor/outdoor use, edging, safe placement and replacement. Ensure the mat lies flat and does not create a trip hazard.
Remove loose soil routinely
Vacuum or shake the mat as its instructions allow, and clean both sides where safe. Use the specified method for fibres and backing; excessive moisture, heat or pressure can damage adhesive, dyes and anti-slip layers.
Treat spills and dry completely
Blot fresh liquid if permitted, use a compatible labelled product and allow the mat to dry before placing it back. Do not use bleach, solvents, high-pressure washing or UV sprays unless the maker expressly allows them.
Inspect and replace when needed
Check for curled edges, worn pile, loose backing, odour, persistent soil and movement. Replace or repair according to supplier guidance when a mat becomes unsafe or ineffective. Large commercial mat cleaning may require a specialised laundry provider.
