Identify the fabric and mechanism
Check whether the covering is washable, dry-clean only, lined, coated, timber, metal, motorised or attached to a fragile track. Photograph condition and note cords, brackets and controls. Do not remove high, heavy or motorised fittings without permission and safe access.
Avoid common cleaning damage
Do not soak dry-clean-only fabric, use bleach or solvents by guesswork, scrub coatings or force moving parts. Excess water can stain fabric, swell timber, corrode metal and damage lining. Test a compatible method only as instructed by the manufacturer.
Plan rental handover expectations
List curtains, blinds, tracks and screens separately if required by the tenancy instructions. Cleaning cannot restore fading, broken mechanisms or permanent stains and does not guarantee a bond refund. Report damage through the property process.
Know when to use a specialist
Delicate, high, motorised, stained or heavily soiled coverings may need a curtain or blind specialist. Confirm access, removal and reinstatement responsibility before arranging work.
