How steam cleaning differs
A steam cleaner heats water and directs vapour through an attachment. Equipment, temperature, pressure and moisture vary by model. It may loosen soil on some compatible hard surfaces, but the result depends on the material, soil and instructions for the specific machine.
Check surfaces before use
Unsealed timber, some laminates, delicate fabrics, painted finishes, natural stone, electrical components and heat-sensitive materials may be damaged by moisture or heat. Check both the surface maker and appliance manual; do not use steam if compatibility is unclear.
Use equipment cautiously
Follow the manufacturer’s directions for filling, attachments, operation, cooling and storage. Hot steam can burn. Keep the nozzle away from people, pets, skin, electrical outlets and incompatible surfaces. Do not add chemicals unless the appliance maker explicitly permits it.
Understand cleaning and disinfection claims
Steam is not automatically a validated disinfectant, stain remover or safe method for every home. Do not rely on generic germ-kill claims; use a product specifically labelled for a disinfection task and follow its directions when that task is required.
