Distinguish steam from liquid extraction
A steam appliance heats water to produce steam; a wet extractor sprays or applies liquid and collects it. A combination product may include more than one function, but the name alone does not show how it works.
Check surface compatibility first
Heat and moisture can damage some timber, laminate, sealed, delicate or moisture-sensitive surfaces. Check both appliance and floor-maker instructions before use, and test only as their guidance permits.
Treat sanitising and drying claims cautiously
Do not assume a steam setting sanitises every surface, removes every soil, or leaves a floor dry. Results depend on the appliance, contact method, surface and conditions; rely only on substantiated model-specific claims.
Choose by task and care requirements
Compare the manual's approved surfaces, tank and accessory setup, maintenance, drying instructions, warranty and available support. Unplug and cool the machine as directed before filling, emptying or maintenance.
