Isolate the work area
Agree which rooms are under construction, use suitable temporary barriers and keep doors or openings controlled where practical. Protect floors and furnishings according to the builder’s instructions, but do not block emergency exits or ventilation required for safe work. Keep children and pets away from the site.
Plan trade access and cleaning
Ask trades when dusty cutting, sanding, demolition, painting and curing will occur. Clean after the relevant work is complete rather than repeatedly cleaning through active dust. Keep power, water, parking and access instructions clear, and separate construction waste removal from ordinary domestic cleaning.
Protect surfaces and air quality
Use a suitable vacuum and damp method for settled dust only when the surface allows it. Avoid directing dust into vents, soaking joinery or using unapproved chemicals on new finishes. Air purifiers may support comfort but do not replace source control, ventilation, builder measures or professional assessment.
Respect hazardous-material boundaries
Do not disturb suspected asbestos, lead paint, silica dust, chemicals, sharps, unknown powders or contaminated waste. Stop and contact the builder or qualified specialist.
