Prepare the device
Disconnect cables, switch the device off if the manufacturer directs and remove its case where appropriate. Keep liquid away from openings, ports, speakers and buttons. Do not clean a damaged device or one connected to power.
Use a compatible cloth and method
A clean, soft, lint-free cloth may be suitable for ordinary marks if the device instructions allow it. Dampen the cloth only as directed; do not spray directly onto the phone, submerge it or use abrasive material.
Check before using a disinfectant
Some device makers permit specific products on certain exterior surfaces, while others restrict alcohol or chemical use. Check both the phone instructions and product label for surface, application and contact-time guidance. Do not assume cleaning or disinfection makes a device germ-free.
Clean the case separately
Cases may use different plastics, leather, coatings or fabric. Remove and clean a case only according to its maker's instructions, and let it dry fully before putting it back on the device.
Know when not to continue
Stop if a coating changes, liquid enters an opening or the device heats or behaves unusually. Follow manufacturer support instructions for moisture exposure or device faults rather than trying household solvents, compressed air or improvised tools.
