Holiday Cleaning: A Practical Guide to Guest Preparation

Preparing for guests does not require cleaning every part of the home at once. Prioritise clear access, bathrooms, food areas and sleeping spaces, and match each product and method to the surface being cleaned.

Clear clutter and plan the work

Remove ordinary rubbish, clear walkways and exits, make space for bags and identify the rooms guests will use. Work from higher surfaces to floors and leave enough time for damp areas to dry. Ventilate where safe and practical; do not use fragrance to mask persistent damp or chemical odours.

Refresh kitchens and bathrooms

Clean food-contact surfaces, sinks, taps, toilets, showers and mirrors with compatible products and according to labels. Keep chemicals separate, never mix products and keep children, pets and food away while cleaning. Appliance interiors and bins can be added if time and scope allow.

Prepare bedrooms and living areas

Wash linen according to care labels, dust reachable surfaces, vacuum suitable floors and arrange seating. Use care around electronics, delicate fabrics and timber. Test stain treatment in a hidden area where appropriate and do not assume old marks can be removed.

Make a final guest-ready check

Allow floors and fabrics to dry, check lighting and access, empty agreed bins and place clean towels where needed. If the home needs a broader reset, describe room count, condition and timing when requesting domestic cleaning.
