Choose a practical basic kit
A household kit may include clean microfibre cloths, soft brushes, a suitable mop, vacuum attachments, bucket, dustpan and labelled products. Gloves or eye protection should follow the product instructions. Keep bathroom, kitchen and general-use cloths separate and wash reusable items as directed.
Match tools to materials
Use soft tools on glass, stone, timber, upholstery and coatings unless the manufacturer permits something else. Abrasive pads and metal scrapers can scratch surfaces. Select vacuum attachments for the floor or upholstery being cleaned and avoid excess moisture on sensitive materials.
Store products and equipment safely
Keep products in labelled containers and away from children, pets, food and incompatible chemicals. Never decant unidentified liquids or mix products. Store batteries, aerosols, solvents and other restricted materials according to label and local disposal guidance.
Know when equipment is not enough
High windows, hazardous material, pests, extensive mould-like growth, water damage and specialist finishes may need trained providers or repair trades. For carpet, upholstery or deep cleaning, describe the surface and access before requesting a quote.
