Identify the glass, coating and safe access
Check whether the pane is tinted, filmed, coated, treated or part of a specialist assembly, and follow the glass or window maker’s instructions. Do not lean out of a window, climb on furniture or use a ladder for an unfamiliar task. Leave elevated or difficult-to-access exterior glass to a suitably equipped window-cleaning provider.

Remove loose dust before wet cleaning
Use a soft brush or suitable cloth to remove loose dust from reachable glass and frames. This reduces the chance of dragging grit across the pane. Protect nearby flooring and furnishings from drips, and avoid cleaning hot glass or a surface in conditions where the product label warns it may dry too quickly.
Use a compatible product and clean tool
Choose a glass product compatible with the pane, coating and frame, and follow its dilution and application directions. Use a clean, lint-free cloth or suitable squeegee and replace it if grit or residue appears. Do not combine cleaners or use abrasive pads, blades or solvents unless the manufacturer specifically permits the method.
Stop when the mark may be damage
Mineral deposits, scratches, seal failure and damage to a coating may not be removable with ordinary cleaning. Avoid aggressive scraping or stronger chemicals if the surface is uncertain. Ask the manufacturer or an experienced window cleaner to assess persistent marks, fragile panes or a large elevated area.
