Choose a product by task and surface
A general cleaner, dish detergent, glass product, bathroom descaler, oven cleaner and stain treatment target different soils and materials. Timber, natural stone, metal finishes, coatings, upholstery and food-contact surfaces require care. Follow the label and surface manufacturer’s instructions.

Compare evidence rather than brand rankings
Do not assume a named product is top-rated, safe for every home or effective against germs unless current product directions and reliable evidence support that specific claim. Read ingredients, cautions and intended use. ‘Plant-based’, ‘eco’ and ‘non-toxic’ do not prove compatibility or health benefit.
Use the product as directed
Follow dilution and contact times, ventilate as advised, use listed protective equipment and rinse when required. Never mix cleaners or reuse a chemical outside its label. Test an unfamiliar product discreetly where appropriate and stop if the surface changes.
Consider packaging and household needs separately
Concentrates, refills and recyclable packaging may affect material use, but the overall impact depends on the product and system. Buy only what you need, store chemicals securely and follow disposal directions. Ask a clinician about health concerns instead of relying on product marketing.
