Choose finishes with clear care instructions
Tiles, grout, stone, tapware, glass, sealants and coated fixtures need different products and maintenance. Ask suppliers and installers for the exact care information, especially for natural stone, textured surfaces and specialist finishes. Avoid assuming that an attractive material tolerates acids, abrasives, steam or frequent wet cleaning.

Consider access around fixtures and storage
Recessed niches, usable shelves, reachable taps and accessible floor edges can make routine upkeep easier, but their installation and waterproofing must be assessed by the relevant professional. Leave sufficient access for cleaning without altering plumbing, electrical work or structural components after handover.
Plan ventilation and moisture with qualified trades
Ask the builder or relevant licensed tradesperson about ventilation, drainage, waterproofing and product requirements for the room. Cleaning does not fix leaks, ventilation faults, failed grout, mould inside a wall or construction defects. Record issues and refer them through the project or maintenance process.
Arrange post-renovation cleaning after trades finish
Once works are complete and the area is safe to enter, identify dust, grout haze and residue that can be cleaned from compatible surfaces. Protect new finishes and follow curing and care instructions before applying products or moisture. Share the room, surface types, access and handover timing when requesting a construction-cleaning quote.
